A word from the creator of the Linestrider tarot:
Balance, moderation, communication, resource management, art, healing.
The temperance card depicts a hermaphrodite angel, the child of Hermes and Aphrodite, indicating a gender balance. The angel has one foot on solid ground, representing the material world, and one foot in water, representing the unconscious; it also means the need to "test the water" before jumping into anything. Temperance indicates that you are learning to integrate balance, patience, and moderation into your life, or perhaps suggests the need to do so. The square on the angel's chest symbolizes the earth, a sign of strength of will, and the triangle inside the square protects the feminine aspect by natural law. I have illustrated the angel with the palms open to indicate the dynamics of the flow of water between the hands up and down, which signifies the passage from a lower plane to a higher plane. The character, who is of a temperate nature, combines opposites and finds balance in life by avoiding extremes.
Conversely, temperance indicates that something in your life is out of balance. It can be a conflict or an excess that causes stress and tension. Find out where this imbalance is located, and be honest about its impact on your own life and the lives of those around you. For example, are you spending too much money, or are you involved in an activity that takes you away from home for too long periods of time? Are there behaviors in your life (or those that are close to you) that make it so that a person has to assume all the responsibilities alone, in addition to the tasks and the financial burden? Tarot, like nature, invites us to always strive for balance, so take the time to find a happy medium in your life.
